SCALLOP POTATO
Ingredients:
6-7 large potatoes
2 tablespoons butter
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 cup finely grated cheddar cheese
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius .
2. Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly.
3. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add the onion and garlic, cook until softened.
4. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and garlic and stir until the flour is completely combined.
5. Pour in milk and stir constantly until it comes to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
6. Add salt, pepper, and thyme to the sauce.
7. Grease a baking dish.
8. Layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom of the baking dish.
9. Pour half of the milk sauce mixture over the potatoes.
10. Sprinkle half of the grated cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese over the sauce.
11. Repeat with another layer of potatoes and the rest of the sauce and cheeses.
12. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs on the top.
13. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and browned on top.
14. Allow the scalloped potatoes to rest for a few minutes before serving.
